so my b550m aorus elite /5600x has 2x16gb corsair 3600. those 2 sticks are getting moved to a 5950x pc and I got a new 2x16gb 3200 lexar set for the b550m instead.

it isnt posting. the manual says a2/b2 slots for 2 sticks. ive also tried a1/b1. I did install a small speaker to hear the start up issues and it isnt beeping at all. no post/beep.

so I removed the bios battery for 5minutes. and retried. same results.

something else im curious if it can be, but I have a feeling a while back i fried the b2 or was it b1 slot. cant remember which slot the 2nd stick was sitting in.
I had removed one stick a while back to see the model so I could get another 2x16 to run 4 sticks and I believe I had not inserted it correctly and it was not locked in place and taking the mb out a few months ago, it was loose and sitting at an angle with one side higher then the rest. and since ive been only running 1x16gb stick as its enough for the needs on this pc. I did try running 1 of the new sticks and no post/beep.

so will leave the bios battery till morning and try 1 stick in a2 and see how it goes.

hey thanks for the help.

I did try the old 1 stick. did not post. but I was just frustrated and didnt do it in a methodical way.

will leave the battery out till tomorrow and will try 1 of the new sticks. then otherwise, battery out for an hour and try old again in same slot and see what I get. cheers

1 minute vs 24 hrs will make no difference for the battery. These days you don't even have to take the battery out because of the jumper. Short 2 pins with the power disconnected and it's the same as removing the battery.

Is the BIOS updated? Seems silly to think it will make a difference but since ram doesn't have just one manufacturing for the ICs, new ones can and will be incompatible.

Can't hurt to update either way.

ok, finally got the 2 lexar sticks to play nice. but in slots 1 & 2. the other variations of 1/3 or 2/4 did nothing. even 1&4 didnt work. im guessinhg slots 3/4 are not working. I set xmp and its all fine currently posting and loading w10.

bios FFc Sep 02, 2024. theres a newer one from 2025 but ill leave it as is. says newer version of AMD AGESA V2 1.2.0.E for fix AMD CPU microcode

I appreciate the fast and helpful guide IR_cow. have a good weekend
