MicroProse to Publish Afterconflict, a Ruthlessly Authentic Cold War Military Simulation

MicroProse is proud to announce that it will publish Afterconflict, a brutally realistic Cold War-era tactical FPS set in an alternate late-stage World War III. Developed with military simulation purists in mind, Afterconflict puts players into the boots of NATO and Warsaw Pact soldiers locked in unforgiving battle across the scarred landscapes of a divided Europe.

As a first taste of the game's meticulous realism, a new Tech Demo is now available on Steam. Players can try their hand at the game's Firing Range—though mastering even basic shooting mechanics won't come easy. Every bullet counts, and every weapon demands respect, with authentic ballistics, damage modeling, reloading, and wear mechanics that leave no room for run-and-gun shortcuts. The advanced dynamic lighting will also dramatically affect visibility and performance.

Built on a custom engine, Afterconflict is designed from the ground up for extensibility and precision. The engine includes a robust modding framework, empowering the community to expand and customize their experience with new content, mechanics, and scenarios.

This is not just a shooter—Afterconflict is an uncompromising military simulation built on a foundation of research, realism, and respect for military detail. From uniforms and optics to ammo types and battlefield behavior, every piece of gear is crafted to simulate real-world performance.

To get an even deeper look into the game's development and its striking attention to detail, players are encouraged to explore the official Afterconflict YouTube channel, which features regular behind-the-scenes videos and deep dives into the systems that make this title a true standout in the milsim genre.

How closely-related is modern MicroProse to turn of the century MicroProse?

'cuz I'm about-sold on the studio alone.

Ah. Looks like a passionate and highly motivated individual picked up the brand, but is keeping it in the same spirit.

Deep *sigh*...
Looks like the goal is to be 'the new ARMA'. Kinda part of the deal, with that kinda game.
Though, a combined arms game with GPU-accelerated AI, does sound pretty fantastic

I guess that depends on what you're interested in, because as it usually happens them as publishers and them as developers are not the same thing. AFAIK they haven't developed a single game in more than 2 decades.

Notice that I did not mention "extraordinarily capable"

The scope proposed here is going to need investments, and that's what this feels like: a solicitation for investors, with working proof of concept in-hand.

"aliasing shimmering" (and being a blurry mess) is apparently just in-vogue, these days.
I first really noticed it on UE4 MW5:Mercs, and the 'sequel' UE5 MW5:Clans is even worse. I decided to try Expedition 33 off Gamepass, and it has the same problems (and worse).

If you don't use DLSS/XeSS/FSR (even at 4K native) there's shimmery jaggies on everything.

IMO, it's clear that developers and game engines have (been) adapted to the expectation/necessity of GPU-accelerated scaling and frame generation :shadedshu:

It's the 200Hz TV smoothing of the video game world. It needs to die a quick death.

First PC game I ever purchased, played on an Amstrad I got from Costco.

This Microprose revival is truly unprecedented. They really do channel the old spirit in all their releases, even if none (?) are produced in-house. (btw, they started in 1982, not "the turn of the century :)"

This game also sounds and looks interesting, though whether they can challenge Arma in the online arena remains to be seen.

I think they were referring to when Mechwarrior 3 was released not the company's founding.
MW3, good times.
